The Vampire Dancer Slayer: Family Casting Choices

The Vampire Dancer Saga FrontI asked my family members who they would choose to portray them if The Vampire Dancer Saga script ever makes it to the small screen on TV or big screen as a movie.

Their choices were really SPOT ON!

My brother suggested Laurence Fishburn, and I had not thought about that before, but they do look just alike!  But since Chapter 10: Dances with Wolves takes place in the 1990s, I convinced my brother to let him play our father instead.

My sister made 3 suggestions: Gabrielle Union, Nia Long and Jill Marie Jones,Bianca Lawson again she was spot on, because they all do favor her.  But I picked the youngest of the 3, Jill Marie Jones as the actress who would look most like her in Chapter 10: Dances With Wolves, the 1990s.

My brother also suggested Idris Alba to play the character Lance, which was spot on and Tasha Smith for Aunt Stine, which is unreal because Tasha does play a sort of “tough” character in many of her TV and film roles, which is similar our aunt.  Aunt Stine does not play, she will “cut you with a knife” or throw a shoe at you when you are wrong!

Here are the rest of the casting recommendations, I hope my family approves!

The actor/actress pictures are listed in the same order as Actor/Actress Recommended on this list below.  For example, Bianca Lawson (photo on right) is the 1st actress on the list.

As young Kandy:

POST UPDATED 9/3/12:  I forgot 3 characters.   They are now on the list.  Some quick thoughts on Chapter 7: Why did Martin, John and Bobby stop dancing, the 1960s.  This chapter reminds me of my favorite 1960s TV shows, like Green Acres.  I could totally see a 1960s MASHUP of different shows like The Munsters, The Beverly Hillbillies in this Episode.   Aunt “Dot” was nowhere similar to Lisa Douglas (played by Eva Gabor), nor was Uncle “Nook” similar to Oliver Douglas (played by Eddie Albert).  The real Uncle “Nook” was an auto mechanic and my real Aunt “Dot” is more down-to-earth.  She has the best Macaroni & Cheese in the world!  We really did live down the street from them on in the 1960s.  But my real Aunt “Ethel” was really like the real “Granny Clampett” cooking pigeons and other Southern food classics.  The Vampire Dancer Saga, Part 1, did not credit my Uncle Johnny (Fatiene’s husband), who really did teach the real Lance about singing, not Uncle Nat, but that will be explored in Part 2 of The Vampire Dancer Saga!

Casting Call: Which actors would you cast to play the alternate Marilyn Monroe, Grandpa Munster, Vanessa L. Williams and DWTS (Carrie Ann, Bruno) in the Movie Version of The Vampire Dancer Saga?

The Vampire Dancer Saga back coverI’m back with more DREAM CASTING WISHES for my newly published book, The Vampire Dancer Saga!

Chapters 1 and 7 mention a family that sounds suspiciously like our favorite TV family of creatures, but this family lives in the “Mockingbird” Estates:

Le Monsters (New Orleans, LA)
Grandpa Jacob (Vampire)
Edward (Werewolf)
Hermes (Frankenstein)
Lila (Bride of Frankenstein and Witch)
Marla (Marilyn Monroe from the Alternate Universe, Glamour Dancer)Grandpa Al Lewis1

The Grandpa Jacob character in my book is dating my Aunt Ethel. His family of kooky “monsters” come over and dance with my family. My dream actor to play Grandpa Jacob would be TOY CAMDEN!

I TWEETED TOY recently and was so please to get a Reply & RETWEET back:

Shalimar Ali @Shalimaral
@Camden_Toy You’re BRILLIANT beyond the makeup I would love to have you play Grandpa Jacob aka Grandpa in The Munsters
Camden Toy @Camden_Toy
@Shalimaral Thank you for your kind words. I would love to

Toy Camden2I LOVE Toy Camden! He is one of my favorite actors on Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I love how his characters like Gnarl and The Gentleman are not just an actor in makeup; but he becomes that character!

For my Aunt Ethel, I would love to have the very funny and talented JENIFER LEWIS play her. I love every character that Jenifer has played in every TV Show or Movie. She always STEALS THE SHOW! When I know that she is going to be in a TV show or movie, her character is the one that I wait to see, even if she is not the main character. It would be a hoot to see her play my kooky auntie who reminds me so much of Granny Clamplett.

So many actresses have played MARILYN MONROE! But one actress sticks out to play her from the Alternate Universe because of the resemblance, but also because she could make Marilyn appeal to a whole new generation of Hip Hop. This actress also likes to Rap. She is BRITT ROBERTSON from The Secret Circle and Swingtown!

Gia told Vanilla that she had another prediction that one day Eckels will end up with her man Foxy Ricky.

Chapter 9 is a spoof; but also a tribute to one of my favorite singers and actresses of all time: VANESSA WILLIAMS. This might be too much of a dream, but KATERINA GRAHAM would be perfect to cast for this character. She’s working on The Vampire Diaries and is probably too busy, but hey – it never hurts to dream, right?  Also, did you catch the part about Britt Robertson1Rick Fox and Eliza Dushku hooking up in this chapter?

Marilyn Monroe

A few years back, ABC had Dance Wars featuring Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. I really liked that show because it made the judges put their money where their mouth is. It may seem easy to sit in a chair and judge other dancers. But can that same judge really dance? Are they qualified to judge other dancers? Dance Wars answered that question with a big YES. Both Carrie Ann and Bruno are very talented. I have a spoof of them in Chapter 11 of my book:

They rehearsed the Foxtrot, their 1st dance of the Season. They got a score of 23 during the Live show, which really insulted Sherry. She thought they could do much better. So she planned to Glamour the judges, KarAnna, Blen and Runo. Gia predicted Vanessa2they would get a 23 and 24 in the following weeks, so Sherry made sure to Glamour the Judges into giving her 10-10-10 instead.

My dream actress for KarAnna is DICHEN LACHMAN. And my dream actor to play Runo is ENVER GJOKAJ. Both were in the brilliant show Dollhouse. Again with the love of all things Joss Wheden! But it would be so cool to see them reunited, this time as bickering judges. Ann

Leana LOVED using Granny Smith’s Glamour potion. Sometimes she would glamour her 6 kids into their adult age of 21 to go to the corner Liquor Store to buy beer and wine when Aunt Ethel was too drunk to go. And there was the time that she glamoured Aunt Ethel to look like her estranged husband, Dolf, when she applied for a mortgage loan at the bank. In fact, the glamour worked so well, that Leana got her new house in the Mockingbird Estates for only $30,000 instead of $60,000. Dolf’s brother, Nook and his wife Dot, had already purchased a house in the exclusive Mockingbird division. They would always brag that their $60,000 house was the best in the neighborhood.Supremes

Well, it was the best, until some strange neighbors moved across the street from Leana. The new neighbors, Hermes, Lila, Marla, Edward, and Grandpa Jacob, relocated from New Orleans, LA. Even though they were white, they were not prejudiced at all. Not one bit. In fact, Jacob instantly fell in love with Aunt Ethel and often came over to court her.

Granny’s Glamour potion could do many things, but it could not keep a man from straying. Dolf Sr. took up with the town slut, Louella and left Leana high and dry with 6 kids to take care of. Leana was not worried about Dolf not being around. She had a lot of support from her two sisters Fatiene and Stine. They had many parties together at Leana’s new house in the Mockingbird Estate. Everyone in the family loved Temptationsmusic and dancing. Stine would play songs by The Supremes and The Temptations. Fatiene would teach the kids the latest dances like the Twist, Bugaloo, Monkey, Swim, Pony, Dog, Mashed Potato, Watusi, Frug, Locomotion and Hitchhike. They often invited Hermes and his family to attend the shindigs as well as Nook and his family. Leana loved playing music on her new Reel to Reel player and played songs from Chubby Checkers, The Four Tops and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

Edward attended the same school as Dolf Jr. and Sherry, Fraction Elementary. Most of the kids thought Edward was a weird freak. They laughed at his strange clothes and widow’s peak hairstyle. Dolf and Sherry did not care what the other kids thought about Edward, as they accepted him as their friend on Team Edward. EdwardFour Tops hung out with the rest of the kids in the family, cousins Jet, Nikka and Kief. In fact, it was Edward’s idea to have the family members form a singing group, The Puzzle People. The group consisted of Dolf, Sherry, Jet, Nikka and Gia. Sherry did the choreography for the group. And Dolf and Jet would often fight about who would be the lead singer on certain songs. The fights continued even into the early 1970s when they sang, “Just My Imagination” at a local contest.

Even though Leana got along great with her new neighbors, the rest of the country was in turmoil. There was a Miracleslot of racial tension back in those days. There was a curfew during the riots, so police urged residents in the Mockingbird division to stay home after 9:00 PM.

It was 9:05 PM and Dolf Sr. was running late to come over to visit his kids. The Police noticed that he was a black man and began following his car down the street. Dolf had every intention of arriving at Leana’s house by 8:30 PM that day, but he happened to have Louella in the car and she took so long trying on a sleazy red mini dress and go-go boots that Dolf was running late to visit the kids.

Dolf saw the Police following him and ran up to Leana door. When Leana opened the door, she noticed that Louella was with him. Leana screamed, “How dare you bring this skank ho to my home, in front of my children?” Dolf he said he had no choice as theLittle Eva Police were on his case. The Police came to the door to ask if anyone was out past the curfew and Leana used the Glamour potion to turn them into 2 Pigs. The Pigs ran down the street and Aunt Ethel complained that they should have caught the pigs and used them for bacon and ham.

Aunt Ethel was real country, just like Granny Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies TV Show. Ethel did not mind sending Lance and Regent on the roof to catch pigeons to cook for dinner. She would also catch rabbits to make rabbit stew. Grandpa Jacob gave the kids a baby chick as a gift. The chick was a beloved family pet and the kids took good care of it as it grew into a chicken.

Granny ClampettOne day after school, Ethel was preparing dinner. The kids were hungry and asked what was for dinner. Aunt Ethel said it was a big surprise. The kids were seated at the dinner table when she brought out a dinner platter covered with a silver lid. Yum, yum, that dinner sure did smell delicious. The side dishes included Macaroni and Cheese, using the government cheese loaf that would later resemble Velveeta Cheese. There was Collard Greens and Cornbread on the table already. Aunt Ethel opened the lid on the dinner platter and the kids began screaming. It was Fried Chicken on the platter. No wonder the pet chicken was missing; Aunt Ethel de-feathered, chopped and fried it!Monkees

Back in Jackson, Mississippi, Caroline was getting her girls ready to do battle with her arch-nemesis, Granny Smith. Caroline also did spells and wanted to make sure her daughters had special powers like telepathy, telekinesis and premonitions. Cynthia was already using her powers of premonition to see past and future events. After seeing 4 frightening predictions, Cynthia wanted to give the following warnings:

  1. Warn John F. Kennedy not to go to Dallas
  2. Warn Martin Luther King not to go to Memphis
  3. Warn Robert Kennedy not to go to Los Angeles
  4. Warn Caroline not to go to St. Louis.

Mommy, please don’t, “Meet Granny Smith in St. Louis!”
