TVDS3: Ammut vs. Cleopatra

The girl-dancer in a costume of the PharaohIt all happened when that woman walked into the party. Granny Smith was stunned to see her mirror reflection walk in the door. The woman looked directly at her, startled, before being whisked away by some of the members of the family. With the jumble of people, even Granny Smith felt herself being bounced around and lost in the confusion—and it was her house!

Eventually, Granny Smith was tossed at Gene. She had noticed him brooding in the corner since that woman arrived.

“Ro’Zha,” he said, “you can’t stay here. Nayture is gonna find out what I did for sure. She’s gonna know I took the magic carpet and the potion and she’s gonna have my hide. No, you can’t stay.”

The next thing she knew, Granny was sitting in the sand outside of a grand palace. Did a sultan live here? But before she could find someone to ask, two large sets of hands were lifting her up and dragging her into the palace doors where she was set before . . . a sultan. And he looked happy to see her.

“How good to see you again, Ro’Zha. Of course you will dance again, won’t you?”

“Dance?!” Granny Smith managed. But she wasn’t required to say more.

“Excellent!” The Sultan said, clapping his hands. “Take her to the harem where she can prepare herself.”

TVDS3: It’s Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature

Chapter 51960: Lightning flashes as Nayture watches Forest’s house. Rain is coming down in torrents as Malice saunters up to it, dripping, her clothes plastered to her, but otherwise unfazed by—in fact oblivious to—the rain. He had lived in that cabin for nearly three hundred years. Girls came and went with almost clockwork regularity. He thought if he didn’t turn any of them, he wouldn’t be burdened with any of them. She knew because he had told her the last time—a hundred years ago. And then he had let her die of fever, rather than turn her, make her like him and save her.

She hadn’t been able to stick around long enough to see what finally got Malice, who, back then, had been called Marnie. But it had been the same then, too. Nayture—then Queen Nature—was first drawn in by his charms and then when he was done with her, she would spend her nights perched outside his cabin watching as the other girls tramped back and forth. (“Huh”, she thought, “is that why they are called tramps?”) He didn’t seem to understand that they would come back, anyway. At least she and Malice would. This was Malice’s third time around, at least. And every time Nayture came back, all it would take was seeing that old cabin for her to remember and she would be drawn in again.

Malice raised her arms and moved her hips in an old world dance—Egyptian, Nayture thought. The rumor running around the village was that Malice was knocked up. Nayture was pretty sure that was a ruse to pin Forest down. It hadn’t worked the last time. It wouldn’t work this time. Last time Nayture had drawn up a gust of wind so powerful it had knocked the cloak right off of her and blew up her dress to reveal the pillow she had been using to fake a protruding belly. Nayture watched now as Malice danced her Egyptian dance—her spell for drawing Forest in. She didn’t have to draw him in. He wasn’t choosey. He would have let her in as he let every girl who stood there in. Malice’s mistake was believing that drawing him in would keep him. But it hadn’t worked last time. Why should it work now?

TVDS3: Scheherazade’s Tall Tales at our Family Reunion

Chapter 4Once inside the party, Ro’Zha was approached by a woman she knew immediately. It was her cousin Scheherazade who told all of those wonderful stories about the Arabian nights. But Scheherazade was wearing the same strange modern dress as everyone else at the party. No matter, Scheherazade, whom people were calling Shera, took her by the arm and lead her into the throng, speaking closely to her ear.

“I know how you got here,” she said. “The magic carpet, the potion. Genie stole those from Queen Nayture. You’ll have to watch out for both of them from now on.” Ro’Zha looked at Shera questioningly. “Right now, though, there is someone I know you are going to want to meet,” Shera continued.

The two women stopped in front of a playpen that was sitting in a corner and Shera lifted the little boy out from the playpen. Ro’Zha recognized him immediately, too, and her heart leapt as she reached for him. It was her own baby boy, Nate. Prince Nate. She hugged her baby to her.

“I thought I would never see him again,” Ro’Zha said.

“Souls have a way of returning to the same families,” Shera explained. “We were just keeping an eye on him until you could return to claim him.”

Ro’Zha hugged her baby tightly, and then spying Ramses in the next room talking to her double, the one they all called Granny, she headed straight for them.

In the meantime, all of the children came and surrounded Shera demanding stories. Shera laughed and led them all over to the sofa; many of them sat on the floor around her. Shera reached under the coffee table and pulled out several photo albums, some of them quite old. “I’m going to tell you a story about you,” Shera told them.

The children all gathered in close as she opened one of the oldest photo albums and saw pictures of themselves looking back. These pictures were quite old, some were brittle and some were printed on thin metal plates. In each of the pictures they wore strange hair styles and funny clothes.

“Did you use Photoshop to make these?” one little girl asked.

TVDS3: Sultan’s Dance of the 7 Veils

Chapter 2Ro’Zha arrived in Arabia and travels to meet up with a group of harem belly dancers. They had all studied belly dance together and kept in touch via pigeon messengers. Zannube, the leader of the harem met Ro’Zha at the dock when she arrived.

How do you like dancing for the Sultan, she asked Zannube? Zannube replied, he is a wonderful person to dance for. He gives the dancers tips and makes sure that they have the best belly dance costumes and continue dance lessons with Scheherazade.

However, I must warn you, that his wife Ammut is extremely jealous of the dancers. So be very careful and try not to dance your best when she is around. Ammut was a dancer a long time ago and that was how she met the Sultan. But then she was bitten by a snake and after that was no longer able to dance.

Ammut’s specialty dances were the Dance of the Snake and the Dance of the 7 Veils, so make sure that you don’t perform either dance for the Sultan.

Ro’Zha asked Zannube if the rumor was true that the Sultan will sometimes award a dancer with 3 wishes. Zannube said the rumor was true, but does not happen very often now that Ammut is his wife. You would have to do a very special dance to gain his favor for the 3 wishes, warned Zannube.

What dances are we performing tonight for the Sultan, asked Ro’Zha? Tonight we are doing a special Pharonic dance with candles. Let’s go rehearse right now.

Sultan Bakkar sneaks in the watch the dress rehearsal. He is quite taken with the newest member of the troupe, Ro’Zha. Who is this new delightful dancer, he asked Zannube. That is my old friend Ro’Zha who is visiting from the nearby kingdom of Egypt. Bring her to my private chamber immediately! Yes sire, replied Zannube.

TVDS3: Ro’Zha Dreams of Genie

Asian woman sitting on a magic carpet“Choose carefully,” the Genie had said, “you may be surprised by what you get.” Well, she had chosen the magic carpet because it was a mode of transportation that didn’t require nearly the maintenance that other modes of transportation did. And really, who couldn’t use a magic carpet?

As it turned out, not even the Genie’s magic was strong enough to break the night walker’s curse. “There is only one person who can do that,” he told her. “You must seek Queen Nayture.”

Seeking out Queen Nayture was going to be a whole journey unto itself. In the meantime, she asked that she never run out of the magic potion that Ramses gave her. Ramses had given her many things, not the least of which was a son which she named for Ramses. This was a wish the Genie could grant and it was done. She tucked the bottle into a pouch she carried slung over her shoulder. The bottle should be safe there.

The Genie was anxious to grant the third wish so that he could be free and on his way again. Ro’Zha thought about the swirling forces of time and space that had brought her to Ramses in the first place and had taken him away again and she knew what she wanted more than anything.

“Genie,” she had said to him, “take me to my true love.”

As time and space began to fold around her, she believed she could feel Ramses arms around her once again. She must have fallen asleep, because when she awoke, she was lying on the magic carpet, her pouch beneath her head. She sat up and looked around. It was night. The structures around her were all very strange looking. They were geometric shapes, like the pyramids, except the pyramids were triangles. These were boxes with a peak on top and there was light coming from many of them. There were also enormous torches up and down the walks that gave off light. She looked at the structure she stood in front of. If this was a home, there must be many people living here. It was a pretty big size. It didn’t look like the ancient Egypt where she had last seen Ramses, but this is where the Genie had deposited her, so she rolled up her carpet, tucked it into the bag with the magic potion and slung the whole thing over her shoulder.

TVDS3: Salome’s Harem Dancer

Chapter 1Once upon a time, there was a harem dancer in Egypt. Her job was to choreograph the dance troupe that entertained Queen Salome and her guests during dinner. The dancer’s name was Ro’Zha. Ro’Zha was having a secret affair with Salome’s beloved husband, King Ramses. Now she was pregnant with his child. So far she had been able to hide her belly under silk caftans, but her midwife, Etienne, warned that the child was due any day now.

Etienne loved to gossip, so she could not wait to tell all of the other dancers about the secret love child. Salome overheard the gossip and flew into a jealous rage. She consulted the palace witch, Malice, to hex a spell on Ro’Zha.

Malice came up with an evil spell. Ro’Zha will always be tethered to Salome throughout space and time. Salome will always be her master and Ro’Zha will always serve her as maiden or slave. Furthermore, every generation of Ro’Zha’s children will inherit night walker blood of the vampires.

Etienne overheard the queen speaking with Malice and now she felt guilty about Ro’Zha’s fate. So she confessed to Ro’Zha what she had done and begged for her forgiveness. Ro’Zha was overcome with grief because she did not want the witch’s curse. Etienne suggested that she seek out the Sultan of Bagdad. He was a big fan of the all the belly dancers in the harem and would grant them favors in exchange for a “special” show.

Ro’Zha cried out in pain, as she was having labor contractions now. Etienne warned her to be as quiet as possible, so that Salome will not hear her. Etienne gathered the dance troupe members and they performed a floor dance to Chiftitelli while Ro’Zha gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. What name will you give this child, asked Etienne? I will call him Prince Nate Ram. The dancers shouted their zaghareets as they congratulated Ro’Zha on the birth of her child. Etienne promised to hide the baby in a secret chamber to keep them safe from Salome.

Should Cheryl Burke take a break from DWTS? 5/23/12

Cheryl1Dancer Tribute 5/23/12: Cheryl Burke (San Francisco, CA)

What a great Finale on Dancing with the Stars last night!  I am so glad that DONALD DRIVER & PETA won!  I have been rooting for them since my blog on 3/20/12.

By comparison, last year I sort of rooted for Cheryl & Rob Kardashian.  This year I hoped & prayed that WILLIAM LEVY & CHERYL BURKE would NOT Win!!!

Cheryl2Why?

  • Too much over-scoring of basic dances done by William by the judges.
  • Too much William “PIMPING”
  • Too many lap dances, shirtless dancing and dancing around William
  • Not enough dance talent by William, even though the beefcake was nice
  • The Judge Pandering to ABC due to the Latin American TV deal made the over-scoring worse and the judges comments look fake
  • The judges lost their CREDIBILITY this season by obviously over-scoring William & Cheryl (The Royal Couple) while under-scoring Donald & Peta
  • I love all things DWTS and my favorite articles are by Pure Dancing with the Stars, especially when written by John and Courtney.

Cheryl3I noticed a lot of posts by this group and also message boards and forums that the JUDGES NEED TO BE REPLACED and that CHERYL BURKE needs to take a break for a season.

The worst thing about Cheryl’s choreography this season was that is was PREDICTABLE!  Even Donald Driver and Len Goodman mentioned this.  Also Katherine Jenkins remarks, “We’re not about taking off clothes.  It’s about the dancing for us.”

Being PREDICTABLE equals being BORING & STALE!  And being Boring is the worst thing any performer can do.  Why not bother watching a performer, if they are going to do the same thing again and again and again.

Cheryl4William & Cheryl’s dances this season were all about Cha Cha, Samba, ass-shaking, bump & grinds.  Which was cool the first time, but then the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th time, I would just glance over it, yawn, and count the minutes until the next commercial break.  I’m sorry, but William’s good looks can only go so far when it comes to dancing.  Non-dancers noticed the lack of skill and easy, safe, predictable routines.  As a dancer, it really stood out, because I’m not so simple to just watch him and say he deserves 10s based on looks alone.

Sure, sometimes we do like to hear/see our favorite performers do their hit song again and again.  I never get tired of Michael Jackson performing Smooth Criminal.  And what about watching Elizabeth Taylor’s entrance scene in Cleopatra?  What about Rita Moreno performing “A Boy Like That” in West Side Story?  I just love the side reference that she went to see a production of West Side Story on her new show Happily Divorced, and also so glad that the producers gave her a chance to Cheryl5sing in one of the episodes.

Anyhoo.  Sometimes I root for Cheryl in some seasons and sometimes I feel sorry for Cheryl when she gets saddled with “horrible” dancers like Wayne Newton and Tom DeLay.  That was so painful to watch.  Cheryl really got cheated in Season 11 when she & Rick Fox got the boot, and Bristol Palin had the NERVE to be in the Finals.  Another example of the judges being FAKE and over-scoring a non-talented performers to please the producers.

I’m so glad that actual DANCE TALENT prevailed this season.  The producers did great by letting the true Cheryl6dancers win – Donald & Peta.  I would have been so pissed off if William Levy won a dance content, based on looks and over-scoring. ‘

By the way, no way that MARIA & DEREK should have in 4th place.  In a real world, with no over-scoring and pimping the line up should have been:

  1. Donald and Peta, winner
  2. Maria & Derek, 1st runner up (or WINNER)
  3. Roshon & Chelsie, 2nd runner up
  4. Katherine & Mark, 3rd runner up

I don’t think that Cheryl & William even deserved 3rd place.  They should not have made it that far do to Judges over-scoring and pimping of the Royal Couple.  And truth be told, William should have left before Jaleel, if you are looking at dance talent alone.  MARIA & DEREK WERE ROBBED THIS SEASON!!!Cheryl7

Who do you think should have won this season & why?

All personal grudges aside from this season, I truly feel that CHERYL is the QUEEN dancer on Dancing with the Stars and LOUIS VAN AMSTEL is the KING or Alpha male dancer on Dancing with the Stars.  Sorry Maks.

Watch the costumes that are worn by Cheryl & Louis and the respect that the other dancers show them.  Also Cheryl has the best of the best of the best COSTUMES on DWTS!  She has the most beads, the most fringe and her costumes are the most ORNATE. Even her shoes seems to be more bedazzled.  Louis seems to do more group choreographies of all of the other dancers on the show.  And usually when it is the pros doing a choreography, he and Cheryl are paired together.

And when you are the QUEEN BEE, the last thing on your mind is taking a break.  But if you have a season of PREDICTABLE, BORING & STALE dances, then maybe you should consider some time off.

Quiz:  What TV show or movie helped to show Middle Eastern cultures including costumes, dance and music back in the mid-1960s?  A few possible answers here, as Hollywood has always been intrigued by Middle Eastern and Egyptian cultures with movies and shows about Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Mata Hari, etc.  But one of my favorite shows back in the 1960s was I Dream of Jeannie.  Sure, at first the costume was bit goofy, but it was still a good try at a Belly Dance look.  This TV show spanned 2 movies and by the time the movies were made the costumes really did look a lot more like real belly dance costumes with the ornate beaded fringe and what not.  It is hard to imagine that TV censors banned Barbara Eden from showing her belly back in the 1960s?  But hey, look at how long dancers from Egypt had to cover their midriffs with stockings, beads, etc.  I will give credit to the hairstyle worn by Barbara Eden, as that look has been copied a lot.  Back when I used to watch it, I never imagined that I would take Belly Dance lessons one day.  Hmmm?  Or did it in someway shape my mind to want that belly dance look 13 years later after the season premiere?  How do we get this notion in our mind to Belly Dance anyway?  It’s not something that everyone in family wanted to do.  I can remember signing up for a Belly Dance class back in 1976 through a college university community class.  Funny thing, I never thought I would end up teaching belly dance for a college university community class for over 20 years.  Who knew this would stick, or be like my other hobbies like violin, tiling, crotchet, and other hobbies that went down the drain.  For some reason I pulled up some old episodes of I Dream of Jeannie yesterday and really enjoyed watching them.  Larry Hagman was a handsome cute hottie back then.  Then today I was watching Larry Hagman guest star on Desperate Housewives.  What a big difference.  Barbara Eden sure has kept her looks.  I love how she has aged gracefully and still looks very beautiful.  I am so wanting the I Dream of Jeannie complete series from Amazon.com, it is just too cute.  The TV show credits has Jeannie belly dancing in it  The TV show would not have happened if it weren’t for The Brass Bottle movie, also starring Barbara Eden.  I’m so glad that Will Smith sampled the soundtrack.  The song "Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble" by Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff released in 1986 samples the I Dream of Jeannie theme song.  I am doll collector too and have a dollhouse.  So I hope I can get the I Dream of Jeannie doll one day.  Check out the opening credits at:
