Dancer Tribute 1/6/12: Mark Ballas (Houston, TX). I have Mark Ballas on my mind today. I was just watching him on HGTV Hollywood at Home and today I was reading my daily DWTS blog and ran across his name. One of my all-time favorite dances on Dancing with the Stars was Mark & Chelsea Kane performing the Viennese Waltz on Season 12 Week 4 April 11, 2011, to ,music from Harry Potter "Hedwig’s Theme" by John Williams. I did not realize that Mark was nominated for an Emmy Award for that choreography. It was a great dance, lots of fun, I loved the way Mark captured the spirit of the movie in the dance. I was shocked that Len Goodman did not like it. He only gave them an 8, and they got a 9 each from Carrie and Bruno. I think he should have gotten 10-10-10. I wonder if Len ever thought that choreography would be nominated for an Emmy when he was complaining about it? I love it when Mark’s parents are on DWTS. I love, love, loved Corky Ballas, especially when he was paired with Cloris Leachman and Florence Henderson. Cloris was so funny on DWTS, she was not the best dancer, but she was certainly the best entertainer. I wish she had made to the finals, I would have tuned in each week just to watch. And it was good to see the sensuous side of Florence Henderson after playing goody-2-shoes mom Carol Brady all those years. I thought that Florence and Corky did a great job on their Rhumba to “Yesterday” even though it shocked some people to see the sexy side of Carol Brady. Corky has trained many of Dancing with the Stars‘ professionals including Karina Smirnoff, Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, Tony Dovolani, Edyta Sliwinska, Alec Mazo, Brian Fortuna, Jonathan Roberts, Anna Trebunskaya, Jessie DeSoto and, his son, Mark Ballas. I also loved it when Shirley Ballas appeared on Dancing with the Stars 2011 week 7 to mentor Romeo & Chelsie on the Samba. Whoops, I got off track about Mark. Any who, I love his dancing and love to see him play guitar almost just as much. Mark is a very talented young man from a very talented family!
