Dancer Tribute 12/23/11: John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever)
Disco ruled the late 1970s and early 1980s. Back in the day, I used to go to a club called Mr. Pibbs to get my Disco grove on: Burn, Baby, Burn – Disco Inferno! My favorite movie about disco and one of my all-time favorite movies period is Saturday Night Fever, starring the fabulous John Travolta! I love all the dances in the movie, but my favorite is “You Should be Dancing.” I have both the Saturday Night Fever LP album, the Muppets Saturday Night Fever Album by the BeeGees (love the BeeGees by the way), the CD version of the soundtrack and I got the movie on VHS when it came out and on DVD when that version came out. The year was 1977. Fast forward to 2011 and still love Disco choreographies performed on So You Think You Can Dance, especially the ones created by Doriana Sanchez. Kudos to Lester Wilson, choreographer for Saturday Night Fever, Deney Terrio, dance instructor for the movie and John Travolta for his cool, bad-ass dancing in the movie! Check it out at:
